2) Are the Alchemist in the Tenth Bolgia because during the time Inferno was written it was considered a sin and punishable by law to go against what the church taught via scientific advancement?

How do people live in hell if it is so bad?
Is it not asking to much of the reader to infer what is going on in the rings of hell?
